Naturopathic Techniques
I find when dealing with the wide variety of clients that I have, often changing their diet is enough to correct imbalances within their body, but sometimes the cleansing process needs a little help.
That is where if my client is happy for me to advise, I will start to introduce Techniques into that persons program. They are all harmless and have a very positive effect on the body.
The types of Techniques I may introduce are:
Skin Brushing
Did You Know?
- The skin is the largest most important eliminative organ in the body and is responsible for one quarter of the body’s detoxification each day?
- The skin eliminates over one pound of waste acids each day in the average adult, most of it through the sweat glands?
- That the skin is known also as our third kidney?
- That the skin receives one third of all the blood circulated in the body?
- That the skin is the last to receive nutrients in the body, yet the first to show signs of imbalance or deficiency?
Detoxification is performed by a number of organs, glands, and transportation systems, including the skin, gut, kidneys, liver, lungs, lymphatic system, and mucous membranes. The dry brushing technique deals with detoxification of the skin.
Dry brushing is a way to stimulate all the above organs of detoxification because it provides a gentle internal massage.
Dry Brushing was recommended by the Finnish Dr Paavo Airola for his patients 30 years ago and is still popular in European spas and many cancer treatment centres today. The Russians, Turks and Scandinavians have used this treatment for centuries. Dry brushing is promoted as a preventative for dry skin and a way to exfoliate the skin, thus stimulating skin renewal that is super soft to the touch, but there are many other benefits as well:
Benefits of Dry Skin Brushing Explained:
- Removes cellulite
- Cleanses the lymphatic system
- Removes dead skin layers
- Strengthens the immune system
- Stimulates the hormone and oil-producing glands
- Tightens the skin preventing premature aging
- Tones the muscles
- Stimulates circulation
- Improves the function of the nervous system
- Helps digestion
- AND it’s easy, inexpensive and invigorating!
Skin brushing should be performed once a day, preferably first thing in the morning. A thorough skin brushing takes about 15 minutes, but any time spent brushing prior to bathing will benefit the body. If you are feeling ill, increasing the treatments to twice a day is good. You can also dry brush areas of cellulite five to 10 minutes twice a day to achieve cellulite dissolving but the technique needs to be done consistently for a minimum of five months.
Other Techniques I may recommend are:
Castor oil packs have been used therapeutically for hundreds of years, both internally and externally, castor oil has a long history of traditional medical use dating back to ancient Egypt. Derived from the castor bean, the oil was traditionally used internally as a laxative. However, now it is primarily used externally .Castor oil applied topically has many beneficial effects and can be used for almost any malady. The castor oil pack is a simple procedure, yet it can produce wonderful results.
Physiological effects of the castor oil pack include, but are not limited to: stimulating the liver, increasing eliminations, relieving pain, increasing lymphatic circulation, improving gastrointestinal function, increasing relaxation, and reducing inflammation, loosing stool and faecal in your large intestine, relieving muscle and any joint pain. cholecystitis (inflammation of the gall bladder), poor eliminations, epilepsy, various liver conditions such as Cirrhosis and torpid liver, headaches, appendicitis, arthritis, colitis, intestinal disorders such as stricture and colon impaction, in coordination between nervous systems, neuritis, and toxaemia.
Castor oil packs are made by soaking a piece of flannel in castor oil and placing it on the skin. The flannel is covered with a sheet of plastic, and then a hot heating pad is placed over the plastic to heat the pack. The client will fall into a place of total relaxation and the oil will seep through the skin. Our dermis is the most permeable part of our body and the oil will penetrate deeply into our internal organs in a relaxing manner. A castor oil pack can be placed on the following body regions: The right side of the abdomen to stimulate the liver; inflamed and swollen joints, bursitis, and muscle strains; the abdomen to relieve constipation and other digestive disorders; the lower abdomen in cases of menstrual irregularities and uterine and ovarian cysts. In conjunction with Colonic Therapy this is a wonderful treatment to help stimulate and loosen stools and waste material to prep for a session of colon irrigation.

Enemas are a great way to clear out toxins from the body, but I will make sure I give you all the necessary advice before you attempt this at home!
There are many different types of enemas such as Water flushes, Coffee, Linseed, Magnesium etc.
With enemas you can prevent the accumulation of constipated waste in the lower bowel. Your blood will begin to clean-up right away and your natural cellular defence will go up. When this happens the toxins that are concentrated in your tissues will diffuse back into the blood where they will be eliminated by your liver and kidneys. Your liver and kidneys are no longer overwhelmed by toxins and as long as you control constipation and try to avoid pollution from other sources, your liver and kidneys can do a remarkable job in natural cellular defence.
Many serious diseases may be averted through this gentle, scientific technique. Enemas are a key factor in the restoration of the body's natural balance and overall quest for vibrant health. Enemas are especially helpful when you are on a cleanse or fast to quickly help the body remove accumulated toxins in the bowel. It can be helpful in any type of “un-wellness” like headache, fever etc. If you suffer from heavy constipation an Enema can also be useful.
But never let the Enema replace a bowel movement. Enemas should be kept to a minimum and used only for short periods. They are not meant to replace a healthy bowel movement and prolonged use will make the Colon lazy because of the larger amount of water and the strain that sometimes is needed to hold the water in.
In my experience enemas can save a lot of suffering, reduce the amount of time that people are sick, lessen the amount of prescription drugs and medication that a person needs to take, it helps relieve (not a solution for) constipation and can help to heal the body from chronic illness.
This is defiantly something to consider trying and see how it makes you feel.
In my practice, there are many other techniques I may recommend to help the body detoxify, cleanse and ultimately heal. Each person is individual and will be treated accordingly.
